and-associates, working with AMA, first looked at the whole building to see how it could be reinvented to make better use of this extremely simple and robust building. The way it is currently used muddles teaching rooms with specialist IT, community and staff rooms. Toilets take away a significant classroom, and the entrance is in the wrong place.

A simple tactic focusing on clearing out these uses and accommodating them in other areas will provide the building with a long term future, and enable it to expand into a two form entry school.
Through a series of structural interventions, and-associates sensitively altered the physical restrictions of the existing Victorian building, and provided a prominent new entrance welcoming visitors, improving security and bolstering the school's identity in its community. The alterations transformed circulation areas into useful learning spaces and refurbished toilet facilities to improve the building’s organisation and legibility. This included the construction of a new nursery building and outdoor play areas.
